Rudd needs to reverse UTAS cuts to complete the job in Tasmania

Australian Greens Senator Peter Whish-Wilson has today welcomed reports of Kevin Rudd's support for the much needed allied health and sport precinct of excellence at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) in Launceston but called on the Prime Minister to reverse Labor's university cuts that would erase any long-term jobs benefits.

"An allied health and sport precinct of excellence at UTAS has huge potential for Launceston and the Greens have been involved in and supported discussions to make it happen," said Senator Peter Whish-Wilson.

Greens polling shows majority of Tasmanians oppose Uni cuts that will slash UTAS jobs

Australian Greens Senator Peter Whish-Wilson has today released Tasmanian polling showing majority opposition to University cuts as the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) holds a National Day of Action calling for the reversal of $2.3B in funding cuts announced in April 2013.

"Labor's cuts to higher education funding, backed by Tony Abbott, put up to 150 jobs and $10 million per annum at risk in Tasmania," said Senator Peter Whish-Wilson.
