Greens plan to give children healthy eating skills

The Australian Greens have a $46.5 million plan for teaching kids what they need to know about food including funding up to 800 new school kitchen gardens and ensuring healthy eating and nutrition is part of the national curriculum.

"One of the best things we can do to help our children lead a healthy life is to teach them about food - how to grow it, choose it, buy it, cook it and store it," Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.

Greens back better education system for Tasmania and Australia

Today the Australian Greens have welcomed the news that Tasmania will sign up to the Gonski education funding plan. Tasmanian Senator Peter Whish-Wilson highlighted the importance of the Greens role in minority government at both the State and Federal level including having a Greens Education Minister in Tasmania, Nick McKim.

"This is great news for students and their families now and into the future and we need to recognise the contribution of Greens members of Tasmanian and Federal parliament," said Senator Peter Whish-Wilson.

Australian Greens Launch Tasmanian Youth Employment Survey

The Australian Greens have launched a Tasmanian Youth Employment Survey today, coinciding with National Youth Week, asking young Tasmanians what type of employment and career opportunities they want to see in Tasmania in the future.

Senator Peter Whish-Wilson stated Tasmanian politicians spent much of their time and energy debating the state’s economic future, but how many had actually asked young people directly about their preferred future employment and career paths?
