The Australian Greens will today seek to formalise the role of the Federal Small Business Commissioner in legislation with a private member’s bill to be introduced to the Senate.

New Federal Small Business Commissioner Needs Teeth

 

The Australian Greens spokesperson for small business Senator Peter Whish-Wilson has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement that they plan to create a Small Business Commissioner.

“There has been speculation around this for a while, we Greens are strong supporters of small business, ” Senator Whish-Wilson stated.

“It appears the Government is yet to precisely define what the scope of the Commissioner’s role will be, or where it fits into the broader picture, but we look forward to learning more.

Inquiry into Alleged Rorting of State Container Deposit Schemes a Significant Marker on Road Toward National Roll Out.

Tasmanian Greens Senator Peter Whish-Wilson has welcomed the establishment of a Senate inquiry into allegations of profiteering by large beverage producers, Coca Cola, Lion and Schweppes from the South Australia and Northern Territory’s container deposit, ‘cash for containers,’ schemes.

“This is the result of a concerted effort from around 22 community organisations with significant parliamentary support,” Senator Whish-Wilson stated.
