Australian Greens National Conference passes motion opposing secret trade deals and Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) clauses

The Australian Greens National Conference held in Canberra this weekend passed the following motion on trade deals and Investor-State Dispute Settlements (ISDS).

That the Australian Greens National Conference notes:

(i) That the world's biggest trade deal - the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement - is close to being finalised by 12 countries including Australia.

The purpose of the Trade and Foreign Investment (Protecting the Public Interest) Act 2014 is to protect Australian laws by banning Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) provisions. The Bill has been referred to the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation committee for inquiry.

If you have concerns with ISDS and support protecting Australian laws by banning ISDS, it's vital that you let the Australian parliament know by making a submission to this inquiry.  The number and quality of submissions is important and will make a difference.

Questions Without Notice // National Heritage Listing of the Tarkine

Check out Peter’s Questions Without Notice to Senator Stephen Conroy representing the Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities, Tony Burke, on the Tarkine. Senator Conroy’s responses show the Government aren’t concerned the region is subject to 58 exploration licences, three granted mining leases, two planned mining leases and an unknown number of the remaining 58 licences being progressed toward the granting of mining leases, covering 80% of the Tarkine.
