Media Release
Peter Whish-Wilson 6 May 2015

The Greens Senator for Tasmania, Peter Whish-Wilson, provides the following statement on the resignation of Greens Leader and Tasmanian Senator Christine Milne.

“In 2012, I was inspired to put myself forward for the Greens senate vacancy after running with Christine Milne on the 2010 Senate ticket.

“In the last five years she has been a great leader, friend and mentor for me.

“I feel privileged to have spent the last three years learning from her in the Senate.

“Tasmania has never produced a more fierce defender of forests or World Heritage than Christine.

“Through her leadership of the Tasmanian Greens and the Australian Greens she has been a trailblazer for women in political life.

“Christine has been a leader of extraordinary stature for the environment and the Green movement.

“I have no doubt that her passion and advocacy for the precious Australian environment and for climate action will continue when she leaves the halls of Parliament.

“I look forward to stepping up my role as a Greens Senator for Tasmania,” he concluded.
