Waste

Governments have been slow to respond to Australia’s phenomenally high production of waste, amounting to more than two tonnes per person per year.

The Greens have concentrated on iconic campaigns like a national container deposit scheme, e-waste recycling and eliminating plastic bags, while working to improve the weak national product stewardship framework that is continually overwhelmed by rising waste volumes. Ultimately, we support moves toward the cradle-to-cradle economy where waste is designed out of our industrial systems altogether.
